Hot Car magazine, December 1980, featured this eye catching Mk1 GTI.
This 1980 Mk1 GTI was owned by the Wolfrace alloy wheel company. It was seen in various publications during the early 1980s and was noted for its unusual interior. This GTI had a factory sunroof and was an early 5-speed example that featured the round dial dashboard from the earlier 4-speed version.
Respected trim maker, Wood and Pickett, transformed the dashboard with a range of Smiths instruments and lashings of walnut, making it look somewhat like an MG sports car than a German hot hatch. While the seats were fully electrically operated, the material used was quite hideous.
Richard Grant provided the side skirts and Wolfrace the alloy wheels.
